HOT STONE MASSAGE

45 mins £40

60 mins £50

During a hot stone massage, the techniques of a regular massage are applied. However, the therapist also works with hot stones that are placed on specific parts of the body. The stones are smooth and flat and usually made of the volcanic rock type called basalt. These particular stones are chosen because they retain heat. The stones used for a hot stone massage are placed in hot water to warm up before being applied. Massage therapists hold the stones in their hands and use them to massage with. This allows the therapist to get deeper into the muscles without more pressure, helping their client to relax yet further.

In addition to deep relaxation, there are many benefits to having a hot stone massage. They include

1. Pain Relief

Hot stone massage has specifically been associated with symptom relief in people with a variety of conditions, such as fibromyalgia and other autoimmune disorders.Several studies, including on fibromyalgia, and rheumatoid arthritis, have linked moderate massage techniques with lessening pain, and improving range of motion.

2. Stress relief

Massage is an effective method for stress relief. Several studies have shown that massage reduces stress and anxiety and improves cardiovascular health.

3. Increased joint flexibility

Muscle tension can make it difficult and more painful to move the joints. Massage helps to relax muscles, which makes it easier and more comfortable for someone to move. People with certain joint disorders may benefit particularly from hot stone massage.

4. Decreased muscle spasms and tension

Muscles that are tense and in spasm can cause a lot of pain and interfere with daily life. Reducing the inflammation and tension in the skeletal muscles eases both muscle spasms and pain.

5. Better sleep

Many people do not sleep well. Factors such as stress, insomnia, and busy schedules mean they get much less than the recommended 7-8 hours of sleep each night.

ESSENCE INDIAN HEAD MASSAGE. £40 (45 minutes)

Indian head massage, also known as champissage, is a treatment that focuses on massaging acupressure points along the head, neck, and shoulders, often using circular massage strokes to improve hair and scalp condition.

It originates from an Indian alternative medicine system called Ayurveda, (translated as the ‘science of life’), whereby it is believed that the mind and body are intricately connected and thus can influence one another. Through this theory, is is understood that Indian head massage can not only reduce headaches and improve physical well-being, but it can also improve mental and emotional wellness too.

Indian head massage is an ancient therapeutic practice that has been used in India for over 2000 years.

SPORTS MASSAGE £45

Although sports athletes benefit from sports massage, this technique isn’t restricted to sports participants, as it can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions, such as:
  • Headaches
  • Whiplash
  • Restricted range of motion
  • Repetitive strain injuries
  • Muscle spasm
  • Postural related pain
  • Golfers and tennis elbow
  • Back pain
  • Sciatica

The massage techniques increase the blood circulation, oxygen and nutrients, which helps to repair the muscle, flush out chemical irritants and waste products that has been stored in the muscle

When a muscle is tight it can irritate nerve receptors within the muscle, causing muscle pain. Compression techniques will reduce tightness by relieving nerve irritation and muscular discomfort.

REFLEXOLOGY £35

Reflexology rests on the ancient Chinese belief in qi (pronounced “chee”), or “vital energy.” According to this belief, qi flows through each person. When a person feels stressed, their body blocks qi.

This can cause an imbalance in the body that leads to illness. Reflexology aims to keep qi flowing through the body, keeping it balanced and disease free.

In Chinese medicine, different body parts correspond with different pressure points on the body. Reflexologists use maps of these points in the feet, hands, and ears to determine where they should apply pressure.

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE MASSAGE £50

Lymphatic drainage is a massage technique that provides a general sense of well-being. The therapist, using her hands, smoothly activates the lymph and forwards it to the lymph nodes.

The lymph is the liquid in our body where all the cells are contained. It is composed, among other things, of toxins and dead cells. When it gets to the lymph nodes, the latter filter and get rid of the waste, facilitating its cleaning.

Since draining helps reduce water in tissues, it is particularly suitable for people with circulation problems, varicose veins or varicula, heavy legs, swollen legs as well as people suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome.

Lymphatic drainage relieves the tensions and pain related to sciatic nerves and rheumatisms.

It is ideal for future mothers who are stressed or have a hard time sleeping or relaxing. Lymphatic drainage calms the nervous system and decreases the stress hormones.
